Yes, you can make such modifications, although retrofitting an aftermarket door must follow the same floating door frame design as the door frame that comes with the kit. Please note, that the door frame must form a u-shaped channel "hugging" the walls to allow the wood to expand and contract vertically, and not be screwed to the walls.
